ABOUT BLUE STEM
ORGANIC FEED MILL
Blue Stem Organic Feed Mill is a small organic feed mill in the middle of Iowa's finest farmland, providing high quality, organic feed and rations for a variety of livestock.

What started as a desire to be the only antibiotic-free and organic feed on the local market, has grown to include customers in almost every state-- even as far as the Bahamas.
MEET CINDY
Cindy McCollough, President of Blue Stem Organic Feed Mill, works directly in the mill and personally formulates all of the rations. With a degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University, Cindy works directly with the farmers that supply her grain as well as the livestock producers to help formulate rations that will work best in their operations. Cindy's passion and curiosity drives her to continuously test new products for different applications.
Cindy and her husband have two children and live on an acreage just a couple of miles from the mill. They raise sheep, dairy goats, and keep riding horses. They practice rotational grazing and natural livestock production.

MEET GEORGE
George Sweazey is the Mill Manager; he runs the day to day operations of the mill and oversees the processing of orders. George enjoys hunting and fishing with his family and keeping his dogs and assorted family pets happy.

UNIQUENESS OF THE MILL
Originally built as a dairy barn in 1912, it was later converted to a feed mill in the 1960s, which became home to Floyd Woodard Feed Co. and Woodard Company for the next 50 years.

After taking ownership in 2002 as Blue Stem, Cindy then spent time cleaning the buildings and making repairs to the main elevator leg, bins, and grinder before receiving USDA Organic Certification in 2003.
